About Daintree Valley Haven

Welcome to Daintree Valley Haven

Entrance to Daintree Valley Haven

Daintree Valley Haven offers a secluded hideaway retreat in the beautiful Daintree Valley, surrounded by the rainforest-covered hills of Daintree National Park.  Just 8 km beyond Daintree Village it is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful Daintree region.

Three private self-contained B&B bungalows on 30 acres of rainforest with tropical gardens, exotic tropical fruit trees and easy walking trails.

Perfect for couples and honeymooners - a paradise for birdwatchers - or simply to relax for a while during a busy holiday.

About us

Your hosts, Peter and Daphne, built the bungalows and opened Daintree Valley Haven in 2000 and love welcoming guests from all over the world.  They are always available for advice or a chat but the peace and privacy of their guests is their priority.

They have developed walking trails around the 30 acres property which is home to over 140 species of seasonal tropical birds, butterflies and wildlife.

There is a barbeque, jacuzzi spa, guests' library, dart-board and board-games.

Your mobile phone won't work here (it will in the Village) but there is free wifi if you need to keep in touch.

Queen-bed bungalow

The three bungalows are surrounded by lush tropical gardens and each has a private balcony overlooking the wetlands-dam and rainforest.

They have an airy open-plan studio-style layout with ensuite, lounge area and a timber dining setting.

There is either a Queen or King bed with convertible sofa-bed for a third adult guest - kindly note there are no facilities for children under 12.

The kitchenette has cooktop, microwave, fridge and all cooking utensils.  A breakfast basket is delivered daily - tropical fruit, juice, cereals, home-made jam and yoghurt, coffee and locally-grown tea.  Other self-cook meals and drinks are available.

Please note minimum stay is 2 nights.

Daintree Birds

Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher

The Daintree Wet Tropics and Great Barrier Reef region is a world-famous birdwatchers' Paradise with over 430 species having been recorded - this is more than half the species found in Australia.

Varied vegetation on the property ensures regular seasonal visits by a wide range of bird species (with more than 140 having been identified at Daintree Valley Haven).

Birders will find that the bungalows provide perfect birdwatching accommodation, each having it's own private verandah overlooking water and many species of old- and new-growth rainforest trees.

There are also numerous tropical fruit trees and nectar-producing flowering plants which attract different bird species including a large variety of Honeyeaters; the wetlands-dam is visited by many water-birds - Black Bitterns, various Egrets and Herons, Spoonbills, Kingfishers and Rainbow Bee-eaters swooping over the water.

... what a fabulous location! The wildlife is great - we saw over 30
species of birds before we had to really try! ...

Susan and Lawrence

... flashing Azure Kingfishers, Sunbirds, Gerygones, Pied and
Spectacled Monarchs, Leaden Flycatcher, Catbird, Topknots etc. etc
- 40 species just from our verandah ...

Sharyn and Douglas

Butterflies and Moths

Cairns Birdwing Butterfly

Spectacular butterflies are often seen in large numbers fluttering around the flowering native plants. The predominant species are the irridescent blue Ulysses and Australia's largest butterfly, the magnificent Cairns Birdwing but there are numerous other species.

Moths and a myriad other insects abound, especially during the rainy season. You may be lucky enough to spot an enormous Hercules Moth, the largest moth in Australia and, in relation to wingspan, arguably also the world's largest.

Flame of the Forest and coconut palm

Thanks Daphne and Peter for sharing your lovely place with us.  The grounds are beautiful, the cabin with good beds, shower and all the things you thought about.  The audio guide was great.  And who can say that sitting in a spa with a family of frogs, they also had a visit of the wallaby from next door?! !

Hans & Marjolijn, Netherlands - July 2019

Everything was clean and comfortable. The breakfast provided was a beautiful fruit platter with cereals, yogurt and homemade marmalade! Far more than what is typically provided.

Robert - Australia - May 2019

Dear Daphne and Peter, we have greatly enjoyed our stay in the luxurious Sunbird Sanctuary, a fine base of operations for exploring the Daintree  You have thought of everything we could possibly need.  You are kind, helpful but unobtrusive hosts.  (But could you just ask the birds to come out from hiding in the leaves a bit more frequently!)  Warmest regards ...

Steve and Jan - Santa Barbara, California - October 2018

Thank you Daphne and Peter for providing the perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.  It was exactly what we needed.  You are absolutely wonderful hosts, thank you for your suggestions, warm hospitality and delicious breakfast (we absolutely loved the marmalade).  Our friends back home are going to hear all about this wonderful place and we plan to hopefully come back again, if you'll have us!  Thank you again.

Somya and Pridhvi - India - August 2018

Thank you Daphne and Peter for sharing your slice of heaven with us.  We couldn't have picked a more perfect place for our honeymoon.  You are the Perfect Hosts, there when and if we need, but allowing privacy as well.  The perfect mix of sight-seeing and tranquility, with some beautiful views around your property.   Thank you for sharing your local knowledge and making recommendations.  It  has been an amazing experience.   We will certainly return to celebrate anniversaries in a similar manner.

Michael and Phillipa - Townsville - June 2017

We loved no phones, telly.  Great hearing nature without the other noises.  Bed so comfy, thoroughly enjoyed our couple of days' - nature at its' best!

Peter and Karen - Melbourne - June 2017

To Daphne and Peter, thank you for having us.  We have loved every minute of our stay here in this beautiful part of the country.  Your attention to the little details has made it a home from home.  Truly delightful!

Allan and Julie - Sheffield, UK - January 2017

Daphne and Peter, thank you very much for your warm hospitality.  Daintree Valley Haven is a fantastic little gem.  Great setting, comfy and practical bungalows, very pleasant breakfast - the sights, the sounds, the smells of the surrounding nature is awesome!  So happy to have stumbled upon your B&B by pure luck while exploring the back roads.  Only regret is that we have to move on and cannot stay for a full week.

Marc and Norman - Toronto, Canada - December 2016

IT'S SO QUIET!!  A wonderful place to stay.  Really enjoyed the great yoghurt, jams and special fruits not to mention the barramundi and steak/sausage packs!  It has been a pleasure to experience nature at it's best.  Congratulation to Peter and Daphne for a job well done!

So many birds in the valley now

So many birds in the valley now and, since that little bit of rain the other day, all singing and chirping their little hearts out. The ones which almost always start the chorus at daybreak are the lovely Green (sometimes called Yellow) Orioles.

A lovely morning in the Daintree Valley

A lovely morning in the Daintree Valley which is looking as beautiful as ever after all the rain last week so we took a leisurely drive along the Upper Daintree road. The rainforest and cattle pastures all Incredibly lush and the cattle all in prime condition. The 'sandy-looking' image is at the upper reaches of the Daintree River and as far as it's possible to drive. What a sight it must have been only a few days ago when the river came down in flood and the level would have been several METRES higher than now! (The cattle image was a few days ago in the rain!)

Daintree Valley Haven Reviews

What a wonderful place to come home to. Set in an idyllic, tranquil rainforest setting, it seemed like we were in another world. Very comfortable unit with quiet split system air conditioning, wonderful breakfasts and balcony looking out over a lake with lots of birds to be observed. Unit was very clean and well appointed. Peter and Daphne were very welcoming and looked after us extremely well. A jewel of a place to stay, we would have no hesitation in going back anytime!

We stayed at the Daintree Valley Haven for a weekend. It was absolutely amazing! We cooked a lot and the place was like a home away from home. Peter and Daphne are lovely people! Will definitely come back!

Daintree Valley Haven

We are very easy to find - when you arrive in tiny Daintree Village simply follow the blue Daintree Valley Haven signs for 8km (5 miles) along winding Stewart Creek Road through rainforest, past lush rolling cattle pastures below a deep green backdrop of forested hillsides. Please do not rely on Google Maps as it is quite inaccurate in our area!!! Stewart Creek Road, from Daintree Village, is unsealed but is well-maintained and suitable for normal cars. Some car rental companies have restrictions on unsealed roads - among those which don't have restrictions are Avis and Budget, which we recommend.
