About Daintree Discovery Tours

ABOUT US

Discover the Enchantment of the Daintree & Mossman Gorge

We have lived in the area since 1998. Previously we have travelled extensively around Australia, visiting remote and awe inspiring areas.  Much of what has made us appreciate nature and how important and significant it is.

Grant treats each day, as taking out a group of friends. Explaining to our guests how the nature of the area works. So that at the end of the day it is easy to look around and understand what is happening around you.

Grant has completed The Heritage Interpretive Tourism course before becoming a tour guide. He also reads constantly to broaden his knowledge not only on the rainforest, but also the history of the area.

Dianne is very much a people person and will go out of her way to find out more information or accommodate our guests as much as possible. She has worked mainly in the hospitality industry in very high-pressure jobs, but finally found her niche in working in the tourism industry selling tours and informing new visitors about what the Port Douglas area has to offer.

Together we make a productive and effective team in the running of Daintree Discovery Tours.

Your day begins at 7:30 in the morning with your guide taking you out to the beautiful Mossman Gorge. It’s a great place to be first thing in the morning absorbing all the sights and sounds of the forest and birds. You will be given an introduction to the rainforest here while walking along the new aerial walkway.

Next we head along the Captain Cook Hwy through the township of Mossman and past the cane fields up to the mighty Daintree River. Here we have morning tea including the great Aussie Lamington and a cruise along the river enjoying the riverine environment, all the while keeping an eye out for the area’s wildlife. “We may even see a snake laying on a branch of a tree, a green tree frog and of course the Estuarine Crocodile”.

After the cruise it is off towards Cape Tribulation, the area famous for the saying where the “Rainforest meets the Reef”. Time is allowed for a walk along the beach or walk to the lookout, an area steeped in history which will all be explained, by your knowledgeable tour guide.

After leaving Cape Tribulation we then travel to our very own Daintree Hideaway, private lunch site, surrounded by rainforest and a rainforest stream, hearing the natural sounds of the forest, while eating a sumptuous lunch and chatting with your new friends for the day. Here you can walk along a rainforest track to truly get an insight into the world’s oldest continual living rainforest. This is a fascinating area full of history and amazing plants and animals including one of the largest birds in the world, the Cassowary.

After lunch it is then off to the famous Daintree Ice-cream Company where you can purchase a tropical fruit ice-cream on our way to the stunning Cassowary Falls. Here we will jump into our soft top Land Rover for a 4wd ride along the tracks and through the creeks of “River home” cattle property towards the falls. The waterfall has featured in the past in T.V. shows, so as you can imagine, it is a very special location. Go for a swim, feed the fish and turtles, or just sit back and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. What a memorable way to end the day before heading back home to Port Douglas.

Returning approximately 5:30pm

Morning Tour Overview

Here is a tour that allows you to swim at the base of a waterfall without the worry of crocodiles, or having to spend a whole day getting there.

Heading off nice and early allows us plenty of time to enjoy the morning. First off is a drive up to Daintree Village where we will do a 1 hour river cruise. A completely different section of the Daintree River, where you will be taken out on an informative trip to view the beauty of this area and with the chance of spotting the wildlife (croc's among other things!) that call the river home.

After the cruise we will have a Traditional Devonshire tea, including beautiful scones, jam and cream, with the choice of Daintree Tea, coffee, flat white, cappuccino etc.

Then it is off to "River Home" Cattle Station where our off Road 4WD Land Rover awaits. Travel along the station tracks and through creeks in true "Safari" Style, to get close to our destination. The road ends at the beautiful Cassowary Falls.

This is a tranquil location with a fantastic swimming area right at the base of the falls. Plenty of time allowed for those memorable holiday snaps!

Here we have enough time to have a great swim and admire the scenery. For the non-swimmers, there is some lovely rainforest here, so exploring close by is an option.

Had an amazing day with Daintree discovery tours. We had Cameron as a guide and his knowledge and passion for the area and it’s history was outstanding. The whole day was so enjoyable and we got to see so much of the national park and surrounding areas. I would definitely recommend this trip to anybody!

We learnt a great deal from our guide Kim, he’s absolutely unique, knows the rainforest in and out, every tree and every animal in it. We saw crocs, kookaburras, cassowarries, and all sorts of landscapes. It was raining the whole day but it’s the rainforest after all and we enjoyed it all the same. We went to different lookouts, rivers and waterfalls, but the best of it was our guide, who explained everything and it’s the added value to see the whole picture of the Daintree and the culture in it. Would absolutely recomend it anyday. It’s the perfect way to explore the Daintree without having to worry about ferrys, 4wd roads and safety, they do it all for you and you just sit back, relax, enjoy and learn. Thank you for an amazing day Kim!
