Some scientists believe the landscape around Chillagoe began to form about 400 million years ago, when limestone was deposited as calcareous mud and coral reefs on the bed of a shallow sea where Chillagoe is today. Subsequent tilting, folding and erosion exposed and weathered the limestone that today towers over the surrounding plains. Fluctuating groundwater levels slowly dissolved some of the limestone, creating caverns and passages, some of which have since been decorated by calcite stalactites, stalagmites and flowstones, deposited by surface waters penetrating through the rock.

We found Steve's tour via TripAdvisor and it was a truly wonderful experience. We wanted to see the rainforest in the Cairns / Northern Beaches Area and Steve offers exactly that and much more. He is very knowledgeable about the area, the forest and it's inhabitants and he really takes good care of you all throughout the day. The program for the day was flexible and could be adapted to our pace. Including driving, stopping for lookout points, pictures, snacks etc. Steve cooked lunch at a beautiful creek where we swam and relaxed. Another great thing is that he takes photos and video throughout the day which are included into the price and you receive them on a USB drive after the tour ends. If you're looking for an experience which is away from the masses, personalized and affordable, this is the place to be! I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone, Steve will make it an unforgettable experience!

We recently did a trip with Cairns 4WD Tours. The tour went from Cairns up through Mossman to the Daintree River crossing at the start of the Creb Track. Steve's knowledge of the local fauna and flora and history is very good and he's obviously had a lot of 4 wheel driving experience as well. Along the way we swam at Roaring Meg rock pool which was delightfully cool and crystal clear. There was plenty of time to stop and go for short walks and take photos. A delicious lunch was provided by the banks of a shady stream. The return trip saw us come back through Wujal Wujal and down the Bloomfield Track. The Bloomfield runs along the coast for the most part and we stopped several times for a wander along some of Cape Tribulation's beautiful beaches. Watch out for Cassowaries as you drive through the small township of cape Trib and along the windy coastal road to the Daintree River ferry crossing. It is an absolutely stunning drive! I would thoroughly recommend this tour. Our guide Steve was superb in his knowledge and expertise but he was also very friendly and accommodating and tailored the tour to our wants and needs. Thanks Steve and Cairns 4WD Tours .This tour will live with us forever!
