About Daintree Valley Haven
Welcome to Daintree Valley Haven
Daintree Valley Haven offers a secluded hideaway retreat in the beautiful Daintree Valley, surrounded by the rainforest-covered hills of Daintree National Park. Just 8 km beyond Daintree Village it is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful Daintree region.
Three private self-contained B&B bungalows on 30 acres of rainforest with tropical gardens, exotic tropical fruit trees and easy walking trails.
Perfect for couples and honeymooners - a paradise for birdwatchers - or simply to relax for a while during a busy holiday.
Your hosts, Peter and Daphne, built the bungalows and opened Daintree Valley Haven in 2000 and love welcoming guests from all over the world. They are always available for advice or a chat but the peace and privacy of their guests is their priority.
They have developed walking trails around the 30 acres property which is home to over 140 species of seasonal tropical birds, butterflies and wildlife.
There is a barbeque, jacuzzi spa, guests' library, dart-board and board-games.
Your mobile phone won't work here (it will in the Village) but there is free wifi if you need to keep in touch.
The three bungalows are surrounded by lush tropical gardens and each has a private balcony overlooking the wetlands-dam and rainforest.
They have an airy open-plan studio-style layout with ensuite, lounge area and a timber dining setting.
There is either a Queen or King/Twin bed with sofa-bed for a third adult guest - kindly note there are no facilities for children under 12.
The kitchenette has cooktop, microwave, fridge and all cooking utensils. A breakfast basket is delivered daily - tropical fruit, juice, cereals, home-made jam and yoghurt and local tea and coffee. Other self-cook meals and drinks are available.
Please note minimum stay is 2 nights.
The Daintree Wet Tropics and Great Barrier Reef region is a world-famous birdwatchers' Paradise with over 430 species having been recorded - this is more than half the species found in Australia.
Varied vegetation on the property ensures regular seasonal visits by a wide range of bird species (with more than 140 having been identified at Daintree Valley Haven).
Birders will find that the bungalows provide perfect birdwatching accommodation, each having it's own private verandah overlooking water and many species of old- and new-growth rainforest trees.
There are also numerous tropical fruit trees and nectar-producing flowering plants which attract different bird species including a large variety of Honeyeaters; the wetlands-dam is visited by many water-birds - Black Bitterns, various Egrets and Herons, Spoonbills, Kingfishers and Rainbow Bee-eaters swooping over the water.
... what a fabulous location! The wildlife is great - we saw over 30
species of birds before we had to really try! ...
Susan and Lawrence
... flashing Azure Kingfishers, Sunbirds, Gerygones, Pied and
Spectacled Monarchs, Leaden Flycatcher, Catbird, Topknots etc. etc
- 40 species just from our verandah ...

Butterflies and Moths
Spectacular butterflies are often seen in large numbers fluttering around the flowering native plants. The predominant species are the irridescent blue Ulysses and Australia's largest butterfly, the magnificent Cairns Birdwing but there are numerous other species.
Moths and a myriad other insects abound, especially during the rainy season. You may be lucky enough to spot an enormous Hercules Moth, the largest moth in Australia and, in relation to wingspan, arguably also the world's largest.
Thank you Daphne and Peter for sharing your slice of heaven with us. We couldn't have picked a more perfect place for our honeymoon. You are the Perfect Hosts, there when and if we need, but allowing privacy as well. The perfect mix of sight-seeing and tranquility, with some beautiful views around your property. Thank you for sharing your local knowledge and making recommendations. It has been an amazing experience. We will certainly return to celebrate anniversaries in a similar manner.

Allan and Julie - Sheffield, UK - January 2017
Daphne and Peter, thank you very much for your warm hospitality. Daintree Valley Haven is a fantastic little gem. Great setting, comfy and practical bungalows, very pleasant breakfast - the sights, the sounds, the smells of the surrounding nature is awesome! So happy to have stumbled upon your B&B by pure luck while exploring the back roads. Only regret is that we have to move on and cannot stay for a full week.
Marc and Norman - Toronto, Canada - December 2016
IT'S SO QUIET!! A wonderful place to stay. Really enjoyed the great yoghurt, jams and special fruits not to mention the barramundi and steak/sausage packs! It has been a pleasure to experience nature at it's best. Congratulation to Peter and Daphne for a job well done!

Our first mangoes
By Daintree Valley Haven
10 Nov 2017Our first mangoes and these are the delicious, sweet, soft-fleshed R2E2 variety. They are still a little unripe but we are just trying to save a few for ourselves before the Spectacled Flying Foxes discover them! The tree is loaded at the top but it's now so tall our fruit-picker pole won't get anywhere near them.
Winter in the tropics
By Daintree Valley Haven
06 Jun 2017Perfect winter weather now with warm days and nights getting cooler (if it's below 20C we reach for the extra blankets!)
The first "Buffy"
By Daintree Valley Haven
30 Dec 2016Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher on hand This is an old photo - this morning it was lovely to hear the first call of a Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher. They're arriving a little later than normal as they usually migrate from New Guinea around October, for their breeding season.
This one had flown into a window (we get some of our best photo-ops of slightly-stunned birds!) and Peter was able to pick her up and put her on the verandah rail till she recovered and flew off.
